Where and why in the Bible did Jesus kill a fig tree just to prove a point?

In addition to the meanings already mentioned, after Adam & Eve ate of the fruit of the tree of knowledge, they made aprons of fig leaves. There is reason to believe the fruit came from a fig tree as well, which lead to the fall of mankind and both spiritual death (separation from God) and physical death was brought about. Jesus cursing the fig tree may also be symbolic of the fact the Christ himself would overcome both this spiritual death (atonement, repentence, man can return to God) and physical death (resurrection) by saying " No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever" to the fig tree.
