How to pray?

i pray to the lord and god but am not sure i am doing it right.. I always put my fingers on my forhead, stomach, then right shoulder, and left shoulder, but say nothing while doing that proccess, say my prairs and then do the cross again(head, stomach, etc) and say amen. Correct? I remember somthing about saying father, sun, something, and the holy spirit while doing the cross. I am not a religous person, i hope to be a cristeian when i am a bit older but very into god and being a good person.
