Should i be worried about wisdom tooth extraction whilst awake?

Hi im really worried about having my wisdom tooth extracted next thursday, I have heard loads of horror stories and dont know what to expect. I am going to be awake with just an injection also the wisdom tooth is impacted.I am having it out because it keeps getting infected. How much will it hurt? how long should i take off work? Am i worrying over nothing? I am having alot of tooth trouble at the moment as well and have tooth ache in alot of other teeth, will this extraction cause more pain and distress to the already painfull teeth? i have to wait 3 weeks to go get these other teeth filled! Please help!
